Superbowl Birthday Brunch

I love birthdays.  I don’t ever see myself getting to the age where I want to let my birthday sneak by without any celebration.  Hey, living another year is a blessing to be celebrated!  That being said, I am also a believer that we are entitled to a birthday week.  Cake before dinner?  Sure, it’s my birthday week!  Should I really get those shoes?  Sure, it’s my birthday week!

January is my birthday month.  Aside from the fact that I live in a land with freezing cold, snowy winters, I’ve always loved the fact that my birthday is in January.  I may never have gotten to celebrate in the summer sun, but hey- maybe I’ll take a birthday vacay one of these birthdays :)  But still, I like having a January birthday because January signifies a new year.  And what does a  birthday signify?  A new year.  It makes January the ultimate fresh start.  New year- new age.  This year I celebrated my 24th birthday.  I’m so excited to see what 2014 and 24 have in store for me.

My older brother’s birthday is in January as well.  Mine is the 10th, and his is the 25th.  As we’ve gotten older, it’s just been easier to get everyone together for a combined birthday celebration for both of us, rather than two separate birthdays in one month.  This year, January was so busy for everyone and we ended up having to have our birthday party in early February.  We landed on a birthday brunch on Superbowl Sunday, after church.  It was perfect because we were all going to be together anyway for the Superbowl, which didn’t start until the afternoon.

This is a good time for me to mention that since we are all Washingtonians, we are naturally all SEAHAWK FANS!  So our party was a Seahawk-Superbowl-Birthday-Brunch.  It was pretty awesome.

My one necessity for the party was a cake doughnut tower.  I did this same thing for my Breakfast at Tiffany’s Bridal Shower and I’ve seriously just been waiting for an opportunity to make another.  Superbowl birthday brunch?  Perfect!  My mom ordered a dozen plain cake doughnuts and picked up some food coloring and vanilla frosting.  I, then, mixed the colors, frosted, and stacked the doughnuts.  The final touch?  Birthday candles.
