Day 6 – Solvang, CA | Santa Barbara, CA | Cabazon, CA | Palm Springs, CA
We greeted day 6 with another free hotel breakfast, AKA, fruit loops and coffee. We checked out of our “layover” hotel and hit the road perfectly on schedule, traffic be damned.
About an hour from our hotel was the adorable little town of Solvang, nicknamed the “Danish Capitol of America.” I figured it would be the perfect place to stop by for a treat. We headed to Olsen’s Danish Village Bakery and each got a danish. We walked around taking in the sights and sat on a bench failing at using our selfie stick.
After Solvang, we only had about an hour to Santa Barbara. It was overcast and chilly, but that wasn’t going to stop us. We parked our car and spent part of the morning on the beach, sitting in the sand and taking pictures. This was our last time by the ocean – we were heading to the desert next.
Next we headed East. We had to drive right by LA so I knew we would enjoy more traffic, but it was nothing compared to what we had dealt with the day before. We made great time getting to Hadley Orchard in Cabazon, where we ordered a famous date shake. It was tasty, much better than I was anticipating.
After driving through windmill nation (for real though), we were so happy to be rolling up into Palm Springs, our home for the next two nights. We drove to our hotel, El Saguaro, and were able to check in right away. We were miserable while unloading our car in the million degree heat – pretty sure we hadn’t broken a sweat the whole trip until then. We freshened up in our (pink!) room, and went to El Jefe, one of the onsite restaurants, for dinner and drinks. It was happy hour, so we got the steak nachos to split, and a margarita. The nachos were SO good! One of our favorite things we ate on the trip. The margs were such a great deal too, we ended up having two. Then, it was to the pool for the evening! We loved the pool at our hotel so much! Basking in the sun amidst all the colors was fab.
