Weekend Recap

Hey all!  This past weekend has been kinda boring around our household.  My hubby is out of town for the week taking some certification classes, so this last weekend was spent doing laundry, housework, and taking care of business before we are both away from home for the week.  He had another training back in January, and let me tell  you…. it was awful.  I hate it when he’s gone overnight, let alone a whole week!  I don’t know if this is a universal wife thing, or if it’s just me– but I cannot sleep when my hubs is gone.  It’s no fun!  So, the last time he was gone for a week I was super exhausted and it took me awhile to get my sleep schedule back to normal.  This time, I planned on packing up myself and the pups and staying at my mom’s for the week.  I think I’ll be able to sleep better, plus I’ll get some bonding in with my little brother :)

Friday night after work, I made spaghetti for dinner.  As always, I was super drained from the workweek so we cozied up with dessert and a movie.  I really wanted to watch Home Alone, but hubby was like “Really, babe?”  I laughed and said, “Yes really.  It’s such a good movie!!!”  This is a good chance to throw in how different we are when it comes to watching shows and movies.  I have no problem watching movies and TV shows I really like over and over again… and I tend to prefer ones that make me feel good about life.  (And a friend just let us borrow all of the seasons of Boy Meets World.  Score!)  My husband, on the other hand, has a never ending “to watch” list, full of shows and movies that I swear he only wants to watch so he can get the satisfaction of crossing them off his list, hehe.  On the bright side though, every now and then a show comes along that we can both agree on.  (Mad Men, New Girl, etc.)  Anyway, back to our movie dilemma.  I ended up losing the bidding war so we did not get to watch Home Alone.  (Next time, maybe?) Instead we ended up crossing The Host off of my love’s “to watch” list.  It was really quite mushy for a sci-fi flick, and I would say it was only okay.  In other words, I would not watch it again.  I’ll take three helpings of Home Alone instead :)

The dessert, though, was fun.  And really unhealthy.  But super tasty.

SundaeI scooped us some chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream into two bowls.  Then, I chopped up some cookie dough oreos.  (These are a limited edition flavor that I was skeptical of, but the husband just had to have.  By themselves, they were only okay–I certainly wouldn’t give up regular oreas for them.  But, added to ice cream  they were delicious!)  The final touch was caramel drizzled over the top.  Yum!

Saturday we dropped our little Westie off to get groomed, grabbed a vanilla latte from Starbucks and then did some shopping.  I snagged the cutest little finds from the dollar section at Target, including really cute polka dot paper straws in spring colors.  I can’t wait to use them!  We also saw Catching Fire, which was really good.  The remainder of the day was spent doing chores and sneaking in an episode of New Girl here and there.  Oh, and I had way too much fun doing this to my nails:

Sunday we said our goodbyes and my love headed over the mountains.  I ran around like a crazy woman doing my packing for the week at the very last minute.  Then my pups and I headed out to my mom’s, or gram’s as I like to tell my dogs.  Yep, I’m that crazy dog lady.  No shame- my dogs are family :)  My brothers came out for the day, so I had a wonderful Sunday spent eating delicious calzones made by my sister-in-law with brownies for dessert, playing games on the wii with my nephew, coloring pictures with my niece, and then watching the Oscars in the evening.  (Ellen should seriously host everything from now on– so funny!) And I did all this while it snowed nonstop outside.  C’mon weather, it’s March already!
