This next series of posts has been a long time coming, y’all. At the end of August, Merry and I went on a west coast road trip that knocked our socks off. I planned and planned and planned the whole thing to make it super affordable and jam-packed. If you guys want me to do a post with price breakdowns I will, but for now I’ll just try and recap all the awesomeness.
So this was 13 nights, 7 states, 8 hotels, thousands of miles and lots of laughs. Yes we are crazy for driving so far in such a short amount of time, but what’s life for if not to jump in a car and drive for thirteen days straight?
Day 1 – Seattle, WA | Ocean Shores, WA
Day one was all about Washington! The Evergreen State. Our home. We left right on time and drove to Pike Place Market in Seattle. I love Pike Place – it’s a must if you’re in Seattle. Our morning there consisted of finding food right away (Piroshky Piroshky, and world’s best mac and cheese from Beecher’s Cheese shop – to die!), looking at lots of vendors, buying a dahlia to spruce up the car, ducking through adorable alleys, seeing the first Starbucks, and looking out at Puget Sound.
After leaving Seattle we started to head toward the Olympic National Park. On the way it poured rain so hard, and we caught a glimpse or two of lightning. By the time we got to Aberdeen, we decided to NOT risk getting struck by lightning in the stormy rain forest, and we headed to Ocean Shores early instead. We saw deer, had fish and chips and a local beer outside at Bennett’s Fish Shack, and hung out on the beach. We got a little lost heading back to our hotel, and we both agreed we were going to have sand in our shoes for days. Our laughter made it worth it:)
