West Coast Adventure {Day 3}

Day 3 – Klamath, CA | Napa, CA

Day 3 started early again, before the sunrise. We took this picture from our hotel parking lot as we were packing up to leave. Goodbye, Oregon! You were lovely.

From Gold Beach, we didn’t have too far to go until we were over the border to California and parked at Trees of Mystery in Klamath. This place was awesome – well worth the price of admission to get in. I loved spending the morning hanging out with the tallest trees in the world. There’s a gondola that takes you to the top of the treeline, and it was so high up that we were hyperventilating the entire time (apparently we’re scared of heights). Thank goodness we were able to laugh at ourselves, otherwise we might have been in tears;) The view from the top was amazing though, you could even see the ocean.

When we left the Redwoods, we had a loooong drive ahead of us to get to Napa, CA. I loved how you could tell you were entering wine country – the vineyards covered the landscapes and it was beautiful. Traffic, however, was not beautiful. I had accidentally typed our hotel into the GPS instead of a place in Sonoma we were going to go eat at – and rather than venture back out in the traffic we got ourselves checked in and walked to the nearest restaurant. Oventi was right across the parking lot, so we didn’t have far to go. We ordered a beer, and laughed at ourselves for being those girls in wine country. We got a pizza to split as well and demolished it.

Our hotel (Napa Winery Inn) had a nightly complimentary wine reception which was the main reason I picked it. The winery there that night was Bouchaine, and we really enjoyed it. I thought we were going to get a small taste of each wine, but instead the rep was pouring glasses. (!) After our second glass we were talking about how we were going to head up to the room, but the wine rep from Bouchaine came over to us with the bottle of rose and asked if we would like another splash. I looked at Merry before answering, and the wine rep goes, “You’re not going to make me take bottles of wine back with me are you?” with a big smile. We laugh, and agree to another splash, which of course is another glass. Cheers to Napa!

After our third glass of wine, we went up to our room to change into our swim suits and make use of the pool. The 90 degrees in Napa was the warmest weather yet for the trip, so we enjoyed laying out even after the sun went down.
